LA Mill Coffee Opening on Silver Lake Boulevard?!

Could it be? Could LA Mill Coffee be opening a retail branch in our home sweet home of Silver Lake, just mere steps away from us on the Boulevard? I thought we were winning the coffee lottery with Intelligentsia opening up in the Junction, but this is just crazy.

We're going from no serious coffee joints to two renowned shops in a matter of months. The word around town is that Rubbish, the store that just vacated LA Mill's future home, will be designing the shop's interior while Cal Asia construction (who also constructed Mozza) is, well, heading up construction.

But for some reason, the LA Mill element of the deal is still very hush hush as I was not able to find it in any of my usual stops for restaurant gossip. A quick call to one of the businesses involved was all it took to produce this happy tidbit for Silver Lake. Now if someone could just assure me that it's a done deal....

This is great news! Thanks for sharing--I'm still on the hunt for a really good cup of coffee in the Los Feliz/Silver Lake area and between Intelligentsia and this place, I'll be set!

Now if we could only get the Backdoor bakery to actually offer great coffee and baked goods....I have lived 1 block away from them for 13 years and haven't been to Backdoor in 12 due to their rather tired product and funky (in a bad way) environment. Perhaps the name "backdoor" refers to the quality of what they sell?

I just got the June issue of Los Angeles Magazine. In The List section there was this "small bites" blurb (page 175):

"Providence pastry chef Adrian Vasquez has joined up with the Lamill coffee team to create a line of chocolates infused with the company's coffees and teas. Lamill's first retail operation is opening in Silver Lake next month".

Hot diggity dog! Finally, a coffe shop in the neighborhood that (probably) accepts credit cards!

Ahem. No serious coffee joints? Tropical! Best coffee in the hood in my oh so humble opinion. Coupled with some guava cheesecake?!?! YUM!
But I've never had la mill so I guess I'm a novice. =)

It's a done deal. I saw Craig at La Mill a couple weeks ago and I asked him myself.

I'd kill for some decent coffee in the neighborhood that didn't require a drive to get. Though I'd prefer it to be on the lake-side of Backdoor (which I agree, it's just funky there), I'm just happy to possibly have good coffee close to home.
